Designed by Rocky Roquemore, the Vale do Lobo Royal golf course, Vilamoura is slightly longer than the Ocean course, although every bit as enjoyable to play. The undulating fairways wind their way through pine trees, with plenty of water hazards and sand traps to negotiate along the way.

The Royal is famous for its iconic signature hole, the par-3 16th, probably the most photographed hole in Europe. For those golfers who like a challenge, this hole is a daunting 218 metres over the cliffs from the championship tee. played from the yellow tee however, the tee shot, while still spectacular, is not so intimidating.
