Golf Courses at Pestana Vila Sol

The main attraction for the Vila Sol hotel is the 27 hole golf course designed by Donald Steel, a British course designer. The Vila Sol resort has 3 loops of 9 holes, the Prime, Challenge and Prestige courses. The prime is arguably the most difficult loop of holes, you have to navigate the early holes well to make sure you don’t ruin your scorecard early on. You need to be accurate and avoid the hazards with pinpoint driving, missing the fairways will prove costly due to the control you lose in the rough.

The challenge course has undulating greens which are hard to read, you need to know where you want to putt from otherwise the downhill, sliding putts will cost you, uphill putts around this 9 is key. Slightly more forgiving off the tee, you can try and really push your limits around this 9. The shortest of the 3 9’s is the Prestige loop. It may be short but is no pushover, the natural landscapes were used to provide a testing set of holes, you need to be sure to hit the fairways on this loop of 9, although they are tight they are key to a good score. Steel managed to put in just 5 bunkers around this 9, but if you find them, they will prove to be a problem.

All 9’s were opened for play in 1991, and are a really rewarding set of holes, anyone who has visited this venue has always said how classy and enjoyable the golf is, no matter the ability of golfer.
